(31/10) In collaboration with ECOLISE and Resilience Earth, United In Diversity (UID) Foundation successfully delivered a two-day Bioregional Governance Training (30-31st October), proudly supporting the EU-funded Climate Resilience and Inclusive Cities (CRIC) Project hosted by UCLG ASPAC 

This event brought together over 70 participants, including mayors and representatives from Research and Development Planning Offices, Environmental Offices, Disaster Risk Management Agencies, universities, and NGOs from CRIC Pilot Cities. The key cities involved included Bandar Lampung, Banjarmasin, Cirebon, Gorontalo, Kupang, Mataram, Pangkalpinang, Pekanbaru, Samarinda, and Ternate 

Highlights from the Training

Bioregional Mapping: Participants delved deeper into the concept of Bioregional Governance using a tool called Bioregional Mapping. This activity enabled them to view their Governance Systems within a landscape perspective as they mapped their climate resilience challenges, identified key stakeholders, and examined the influence and authority related to decision-making on these issues—covering both visible and invisible power structures.

Subak Site Visit: Participants visited Bali's Subak system, a living example of bioregional governance. They learned how this traditional governance model ensures sustainable water distribution from upstream to downstream, promoting harmony between communities and the natural environment.

Systems Thinking and the Iceberg Model: Participants explored systems thinking as a framework for addressing complex issues. By using the Iceberg Model, they developed actionable plans to tackle core challenges, moving beyond surface-level symptoms to address underlying causes 

THK U: In a unifying and reflective ceremony, participants came together to support the THK U initiative. They symbolically lit SDG candles, reinforcing their commitment to resilience and sustainable development.

This impactful two-day program has deepened our collective understanding of bioregional governance, and UID looks forward to continued collaboration with cities and stakeholders across Indonesia to promote a resilient and inclusive future.
