Bali, 17 November 2022 – As a follow-up to the Tri Hita Karana Forum Blended Finance, today, the Tri Hita Karana Future Knowledge Summit has kicked off. The two-day Summit is held to promote leadership between developing and developed countries for technology innovations and transfer, and transformative capital to support the scale of investment needed from the private sector to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Summit will be gathering global and local policy-makers, corporates, technical innovator communities, finance institutions, philanthropy, NGOs, think tanks, academia, and all the key actors in the innovation ecosystem to ensure global action to achieve net zero aligned growth pathways that are socially, environmentally, and economically inclusive.

“We are in a critical decade. Accelerating investment in social inclusion, climate action, health, and nature is key. We need more scientists and technology partners to create awareness-based technology innovation to reimagine system shifts in solving SDGs goals,” said Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences.

“The spirit of the Summit is aligned with the trisector’s commitment, which managed to catalyze USD 30 billion in capital through the Global Blended Finance Alliance (GBF). The Government of Indonesia aspires to establish a THK Center of Future Knowledge in Bali, to join the world in envisioning a New Era Bali Kerthi Roadmap to solve health, green and blue economy, and digital inclusion, together,” added Satryo.

Topics of discussion in the Summit are various, such as decarbonization innovation, digital technology and transformation, medical technology innovation, artificial intelligence of data government, and fostering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurship.

“If we are serious about net zero commitment, we should be able to provide qualified data. Our findings can better assess the promise and potential of decarbonisation innovation through verifiable, real-time carbon accounting and auditing,” said Prof. Karthik Ramanna, University of Oxford.

During the Roundtable Dialogue with the World University Leaders session, it was agreed that accelerating universities' contribution is crucial to the achievement of SDGs.

“Although universities have different approaches and programs, the main responsibility is to prepare students to have the capacity to solve challenges in the next five to ten years, especially in technology and science. One approach is to develop the students to become lifelong learners and bridge the gap between the educators and learners to have the same understanding of the current issues. This is what future knowledge is all about,” Edward Crawley, Ford Professor of Engineering, MIT, Senior Academic Advisor, United in Diversity Foundation, Honorary Professor, Tsinghua University.

The Summit also presented the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of THK Knowledge Prize Alliance, which brings together six partners to promote awareness-based technology innovation and entrepreneurship through an incentive. It will be a platform to exchange and create connections among innovators, inventors, researchers, and practitioners to share best practices and establish capacity-building programs.

THK Future Knowledge Prize Alliance aims to foster Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Anousheh Ansari, CEO of XPrize Foundation, declared,” We need to have a trust and knowledge system to support our entrepreneurs. We also need to teach our young generation about technology and entrepreneurship. It is a journey of passion that needs constant support, emotionally, and building blocks to start their entrepreneurship up and running.”

The Summit concluded that with technological advances, human innovation should focus on bringing harmonious living and a healthy planet for the future of the next generation.

On the second day, the Summit brings participants to experience a sensing journey to acknowledge that knowledge should be embedded in the mind and soul. The sensing journey will expose participants to appreciate the Balinese traditional philosophy of ‘Tri Hita Karana’ through culture, history, generative farming, innovative education, and arts.
