Jakarta, Indonesia - The United In Diversity (UID) Foundation, in Collaboration with a prestigious consortium of international and national partners, successfully concluded the Indonesia’s Higher Education Transformation 2026 Design Summit. Held from 28 February to 3 March 2026, the summit gathered over 100 rectors, academic experts, and policy leaders to co-create a future-ready blueprint for the nation’s universities.

The summit, themed “Charting the future of Higher Education in Indonesia”, was supported by the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Centre, Australian National University, EUNOIA EDHUB, POLITEKNIK Gajah Tunggal, and the Indonesia-Australia Business Council.

A Unified Vision for “Golden Indonesia 2045”

The four-day event was designed as a “mobile workshop,” moving through the UID Learning Hub, Universitas Paramadina, and concluding at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. This sequence symbolized the essential bridge between grassroots academic innovation and national policy-making.

A pivotal moment occurred during the Iftar & Networking Dinner at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on 2 March, where Prof. Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, expressed his strong endorsement of the initiative. His presence underscored the government’s commitment to integrating the summit’s findings into the national strategy for Golden Indonesia 2045.

The Six Pillars of Transformation

Following intensive stakeholder engagement, the summit participants reached a consensus on six critical focus areas that will drive the evolution of Indonesia's higher education:

1. Governance and leadership: Empowering institutional agility and visionary management.

2. Curriculum and Talent Development: Bridging the gap between academia and the global workforce.

3. Internationalization and Engagement: Elevating Indonesian institutions on the global stage.

4. AI Upskilling and Digital Transformation: Integrating advanced technology into the core of the learning experience.

5. Academic Quality and Accreditation: Upholding rigorous standards of excellence.

6. Net Zero Campus and Sustainability: Leading the charge in climate-conscious campus infrastructure.

Next Steps: Expert Convening

The conclusion of the summit marks the beginning of an intensive implementation phase. Over the next several weeks, 30 international and national experts will be mobilized to lead specialized workshops and conferences. These experts will provide the technical depth required to turn the summit’s six priority areas into actionable institutional policies.
