On September 5, 2024, the United in Diversity (UID) Bali campus hosted a pivotal meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Kura-Kura Bali. The event brought together prominent figures including Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, OceanX CEO Ray Dalio, Pramoda Dei Sudarmo from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek), Meizani Irmadhiany, Senior Vice President & Executive Chair of Conservation Indonesia, and representatives from the Indonesia Scientist and Young Explorer (ISYE). This collaborative event aimed to strengthen the partnership between Indonesia and OceanX, focusing on marine conservation and scientific research.

The purpose of the meeting was to enhance the strategic partnership between Indonesia and OceanX by focusing on advancements in maritime technology and ocean exploration. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan opened the event with a speech underscoring the significance of international collaboration in driving innovation and sustainability in the management of marine resources. He expressed optimism about the positive impact this partnership could have on Indonesia’s maritime sector.

Ray Dalio, CEO of OceanX, shared insights into OceanX’s vision for ocean exploration and technological advancements. He highlighted OceanX’s commitment to supporting Indonesia in marine research and the exchange of knowledge from their expeditions. The discussions also explored potential collaborative projects aimed at improving marine ecosystem monitoring and conservation.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation by a representative from Young Explorer OceanX. They shared insights on their recent expeditions and the technological innovations used to explore and monitor marine environments. The representative emphasized the importance of integrating cutting-edge technology with local expertise to achieve more effective conservation outcomes. They also discussed opportunities for collaboration with Indonesian researchers and conservationists to tackle pressing marine challenges.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work together on future projects. UID Bali’s role as a facilitator, in partnership with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Kura-Kura Bali, was crucial in bridging connections and advancing international collaboration in marine research and conservation.
